Six to eight for most areas, then a session or two a year. Why the number varies, why a three-pack is a sale rather than a plan, and how the interval works. By Leila Haddad, NP, lead clinician at Saltgrass.

The short answer

Typical plans by area, not promises

Hair grows in cycles and a laser only affects follicles in the active phase, which is a fraction of them on any given day. That is why one session thins hair and six to eight sessions, spaced to catch each cycle, reduce it to the point where a maintenance session or two a year keeps it there. Faces cycle faster than legs, so the interval and the count differ by area. These are typical plans, not promises; results vary.

Typical plans
AreaSessionsIntervalNote
Upper lip and chin6 to 84 weeksFast-cycling hair; hormonal regrowth is common, so maintenance matters
Underarms66 weeksResponds well; one of the quickest areas to plan
Bikini line6 to 86 weeksCoarse hair responds well; sensation is sharper
Arms66 to 8 weeksFiner hair; sometimes a session more
Legs6 to 88 weeksSlow cycle, so the plan runs most of a year
Back6 to 88 weeksDense, coarse hair; often a maintenance session a year

Why it moves

  • Hair colour and thickness. Coarse dark hair responds fastest; fine or light hair may need more sessions or may not respond, and we say which at the Skin Read.
  • Skin type. Deeper skin tones are treated more gently with a different device, which can add a session or two.
  • Hormones. Chin, upper lip and sometimes bikini regrowth is hormone-driven, so maintenance is part of the plan rather than a failure of it.
  • Spacing. Sessions too close together miss cycles; too far apart lose ground. The interval in your plan is set per area.

Packages

Three sessions thin hair and then it returns, which is when the second three-pack is sold. A plan of six priced in writing costs about the same as two three-packs and tells you the finish line before you start. Ours start at $395 for a small area with the test patch included.

When to come back

After the plan, most people book one or two maintenance sessions a year, often in winter when the sun rules are easy to keep. We photograph at sessions one, four and final so the decision is made on pictures, not memory.

Questions

Questions about sessions

Still unsure? Call (619) 555-0147 and ask Mateo.

Is three sessions enough?

Rarely. Three sessions thin hair; six to eight reduce it to maintenance level for most areas.

How long between sessions?

Four weeks for the face, six for underarms and bikini, eight for legs and back, set per area in your plan.

Why do I still see hair after a session?

Treated hairs shed over one to three weeks, and untreated cycles grow in. That is expected until the plan is complete.

Is it permanent?

Lasers are cleared for permanent hair reduction. Expect finer, sparser regrowth and a maintenance session or two a year, not zero hair forever.
